Opala

a term denoting the tsar’s disfavor or wrath often encountered in Russian documents of the 15th to 18th centuries. Opala could mean merely that a member of court was barred from court or deprived of his post and rank; at the other extreme, it could mean exile, imprisonment, or execution. The threat of opala and its declaration could also be a warning of possible future repressions.
