(Open InternationalizatioN) The localization project for the Linux operating system from the Linux Foundation. Originally sponsored by the Free Standards Group and formerly called "Li18nux," it deals with specializing Linux for use in different countries. I18N stands for "internationalization." Key Free Standards Group projects include the Linux Standard Base (LSB), OpenI18N, LANANA and the new Accessibility Workgroup.
Red Hat is also the first vendor to commit publicly to the OpenI18N endorsed input method framework called IIIMF, which allows input of complex text languages, such as Chinese, Japanese and Hindi, and switching between them.
The m17n library development team is a member of OpenI18N, the Open Internationalization Initiative of the Free Standards Group, and is working to promote the m17n library as a global standard.
