OpenOffice.org
An open source suite of business applications from OpenOffice.org that runs on Windows, Mac, Linux and various Unix versions. Founded by Sun which is its main supporter, OpenOffice.org is a lighter edition of Sun's StarOffice. Supporting OpenDocument (ODF) as well as Microsoft Office file formats, OpenOffice.org includes a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation graphics and drawing program and provides access to popular databases. In 2000, Sun turned over the source code of StarOffice to the OpenOffice.org community, which is made up of thousands of developers.

Not a Typo. Dot-Org Is the Product Name
OpenOffice was the original product name, but because it was trademarked by Sun, OpenOffice without the .org cannot be used by the OpenOffice.org community. For more information, visit www.openoffice.org. See StarOffice and OpenDocument.
(project)OpenOffice.org - (OOo) The group that produces a free (GPL) cross-platform office suite that provides much of the same functionality as Microsoft Office including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and graphics. Each program can read and write both its own and Microsoft formats.

OpenOffice Home.

Office 2007, and I'm convinced that its appearance is evidence that its rival, OpenOffice 2, is winning the game with its suite of application programs equivalent to those of Office 2003, which means that what is 4 years older is as good as new.
