Oradour-Sur-Glane

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.01 sec.
Oradour-Sur-Glane

a village in France, Rochechouart District, Haute-Vienne Department. On June 10, 1944, during the fascist occupation of France (1940–44), Oradour-sur-Glane was totally destroyed by the fascist German invaders, who were carrying out reprisals against the French populace.

Troops of the Führer Regiment of the SS Reich Division shot all the men to death. Women and children were assembled in a church, which was then blown up, and those who survived were murdered. About 1,000 people perished. The executioners plundered the village and set it afire. After the liberation of France a new village was built not far from the ruins of Oradour-sur-Glane, which were preserved as a reminder of the fascist barbarians’ atrocities.

Junien's hospital was one of the few survivors of the Nazi massacre of 642 inhabitants of the village of Oradour-sur-Glane in June 1944.
I ask you to remember and pray for the souls of 642 brave French men, women and children, and remember Oradour-Sur-Glane.
An earlier Nazi slaughter of 642 at Oradour-sur-Glane became a national symbol for atrocities.
