Oranjestad (ôrän`jəstät'), town and port (1991 pop. 20,045), capital and administrative center of Aruba Aruba , island, autonomous part of the Netherlands (2005 est. pop. 71,600), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), in the Lesser Antilles off the coast of Venezuela. Oranjestad is the capital and main port.

Oranjestad

Seaport and chief administrative town (pop., 2000: 26,355), Aruba, Netherlands Antilles. It is located on the western coast of this Caribbean island. It is a free port and a petroleum-processing and shipping centre.

With the addition of non-stop flights from Panama to Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Oranjestad, Aruba; Valencia, Venezuela; and Santa Cruz, Bolivia, as well as the new service it began to Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago earlier this year, Copa will operate flights from Panama to 45 destinations throughout North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean by the end of 2008, said CEO Pedro Heilbron.
More than a half-million came off of cruise ships, which now take up so much space at the island's main port that the government is diverting all cargo from Oranjestad to a new harbor being built to the southeast, in Barcadera.
We have enjoyed reading your article on Aruba simply because on February 3, 2002, we were on a cruise on the PO ship Victoria and were lucky enough to dock at Oranjestad, the day of the children's carnival.
