Orenburg Goat
a breed of goat raised for its downy fleece. It was developed in Orenburg Oblast by prolonged selection of local goats. The goats are large and have well-developed horns. The males weigh 65–70 kg, and the females 45–47 kg. The fleece consists of very fine down (fineness 13–16 microns [μ], length 5–6 cm) and a coarse wool (fineness 80–90 μ, length 7–9 cm). Clipping yields 0.3–0.4 kg of fleece. The down weighs 0.2–0.3 kg, with a maximum of 0.5 kg. Kerchiefs that are world renowned for their beauty and warmth are manufactured from the down. The birthrate is 115–140 kids per 100 goats. Orenburg goats are bred in Orenburg and Cheliabinsk oblasts, the Bashkir ASSR, and some regions of the Kazakh SSR. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
