(organic chemistry)
A soluble fertilizer material made up of organic phosphate esters such as glucose, glycol, or sorbitol; useful for providing phosphorus to deep-root systems.

The agricultural pesticides commonly used in China are organophosphates, which are in wide use in many lower income countries but have been banned in many Western nations.
Organophosphates are the phosphates that are actually being used by and actively bound in the plant material, so they are rarely found 'free' in water systems.
Organophosphates are known to cause neurological damage in humans and animals, and are commonly used in modern agricultural practices.
