any one of numerous organic derivatives of the acids of phosphorus that belong to the group of organophosphorus pesticides. Organophosphorus insecticides are used to combat crop pests, ectoparasites of domestic animals (body parasites), and synanthropic insects. They include karbofos, metafos, khlorofos, and benzophosphate.
