His internationally acclaimed The Red Violin (Japan premiere in April 1999) received the Academy Award for Best Original Score and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign Film category. A swirling celebratory dance with an original score by Philadelphia-based Evan Solot; live vocals from the Chicago Children's Choir; and choreography that sprung from community workshops with a focus on intergenerational learning and experience sharing. The piece features an original score by Portland composer John Berendzen. |
