It is slightly disappointing to find that in fact, while university parts, Restoration parts, and Continental parts may not have been adequately considered in previous work, there is still only one "part" from the professional early modern English stage, that of Orlando from Orlando Furioso.
Since I am convinced that one cannot understand the Orlando furioso when taken out of its context as a continuation of the Orlando innamorato, it is perhaps to be expected that I should find a study that examines Ariosto's female characters without reference to their prior development in Boiardo's poem to be of limited usefulness.
