Ormoc 

a city and small port in the Philippines, on the island of Leyte. Population 85,900 (1970). Cottage industries include the production of baskets, purses, garments, twine for fishing nets, and pottery. Fish products are also processed. Ormoc has an airport.

The blaze spread quickly from firecrackers and pyrotechnics which ignited near the entrance to the one-storey building in Ormoc city, 550km south-east of Manila, leaving many vendors and customers trapped inside.
