It's also very odd, for good contemporary design is an everyday commodity in Sweden, from the interiors of SAS planes to Jonas Bohlin's VIP lounge at Arlanda: in restaurants and hotels such as Nordie Light and Clarion; in Ingegerd Ramen's glassware for Orrefors and ceramics for Gustavsberg as well as IKEA. If crystal is more her style, Orrefors has heart-shaped vases ($125 large/$95 medium) and a bowl ($125) and Kosta Boda has red-accented champagne flutes ($85 each). As this year's award winner--the ninth since 1986--Gates received an Orrefors crystal figurine etched with his likeness. |
