Orrery, Charles Boyle, 4th earl of (ŏr`ərē), 1676–1731, English nobleman; grandson of the 1st earl of Orrery. He succeeded his brother as earl in 1703. A supporter of Sir William Temple Temple, Sir William, 1628–99, English diplomat and author. He was married in 1655 to Dorothy Osborne . They settled in Ireland, and in 1661 Temple entered the Irish parliament.

He was a patron of the inventor George Graham, who designed the planetarium orrery (for Charles Boyle, earl of Orrery ) was a forerunner of the planetarium.
