Oshanin, Lev Vasil’evich
Born Feb. 24 (Mar. 7), 1884, in Tashkent; died there Jan. 9, 1962. Soviet anthropologist. Professor and chairman of the subdepartment of anthropology at Tashkent University. Oshanin’s main research was concerned with the anthropological composition and ethnogeny of the peoples of Middle Asia. In Middle Asia he distinguished two Europeoid anthropological types: the Transcaspian and the Pamir-Fergana.
