a city in Poland, in Kielce Województwo, on the Kamienna River. Population, 55,000 (1973). The chief industries are ferrous metallurgy, the production of railroad cars and building materials, food processing (including sugar refining), and clothing manufacture.

There were emotional scenes as more than 1,000 mourners paid their respects to Pawel Kalite in Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, the town where he grew up.
Most flint production was based on five flint types: Cracow-Wielun Jurassic flint from the Cracow region, Volhynian flint imported from the Volhynian Upland in the western part of the Ukrainian Republic, chocolate flint from the Radom area, grey white-spotted (Swieciechow) flint from the Annopol area and banded (Krzemionki) flint from the Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski region.
