Otdel
(military department), in the Russian Empire in the 19th to early 20th century, an administrative-territorial unit that corresponded to an okrug or district and was part of oblasts that were of particular military significance. There were otdely in Transbaikal, Kuban’, Terek, and Syr Darya oblasts. The Sakhalin Otdel existed until 1909 with the status of an independent oblast. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
