Otto of Bamberg

Born circa 1060; died June 30, 1139, in Bamberg. German church leader and bishop of Bamberg from 1102.

In 1124–25 and 1128–29, Otto led Catholic missions to western Pomerania to convert the Pomeranian Slavs to Christianity. The descriptions of these journeys, written as hagiographies of Otto and based on the accounts of participants in the missions, constitute one of the principal sources for the history of the Pomeranian Slavs.
