Otwock 

a city in Poland, within the Warsaw metropolitan area, in Warsaw Województwo. Population, 42,000 (1973). The chief industry is food processing. It is the site of the Nuclear Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

This situation can be contrasted with the events 10 years later, when, in 2000, a hospice for people with AIDS was opened in Otwock, near Warsaw, without comment.
But this was not true of Dr Stanislaw Krzyzanowska, a physician, who ran a hospital in a Warsaw suburb of Otwock and treated poor Jews.
Gorka was born in Otwock, Poland, son of the late Zbigniew Gorka and lived in Canada for 20 years before coming here 2 years ago.
