Adamian, Ovanes Abgarovich 

(also Ivan Abgarovich Adamian). Born Feb. 5 (17), 1879, in Baku; died Sept. 12, 1932, in Leningrad. Soviet inventor and electrical engineer.

Adamian began to study at the University of Zürich in 1899 and at the University of Berlin in 1901. He has more than 20 inventions to his credit, primarily in television and facsimile. He received a patent for a two-color television prototype in 1907–08, an “apparatus for transmitting images over distances” in 1920, and a three-color television system in 1925. Adamian also created a system of facsimile that employs an intermediate cliche. In 1920 he proposed a method of reproducing transmitted images on a photographic plate rather than on a receiving screen.
