Ovoviviparity

Ovoviviparity 

in animals, a method of reproduction in which the embryo develops in the maternal body but hatches only after extrusion of the egg. The embryo is not nourished by food from the mother. Ovoviviparity characterizes certain scorpions, gamasid mites, many lizards, the common adder, sea snakes, and somecolubrids.
