HCN was oxidized to cyanogen which was hydrolyzed to oxamide in concentrated hydrochloric acid.
Pryde and Chan (9) and Chan (10) suggest that hydrazine compounds slightly out perform oxamide compounds as metal deactivators when infrared spectra are compared or oxygen uptake is measured.
It also contains an oxamide metal-deactivating functionality.
