A region of mineral deposits which has been altered by oxidizing surface waters.

Extensive historic workings at Cachinal reportedly extend to a depth of 320m although most of the workings only went to a depth of 120-150m, generally within the oxidized zone.
The system is partly oxidized with the thickness of the oxidized zone varying from 30 to approximately 100 metres or more locally.
Information gathered from the garimpeiro workings indicates that the vein maintains its gold content as the garimpeiro mining activity continues within the oxidized zone.
