Pérez de Montalván, Juan (hwän pā`rāth dā mōntälvän`), 1602–38, Spanish dramatic poet and novelist. He was the close friend and biographer of Lope de Vega Lope de Vega Carpio, Félix , 1562–1635, Spanish dramatic poet, founder of the Spanish drama, b. Madrid. Lope, born a peasant, was orphaned at an early age.
