Písek

Písek (pē`sĕk), city (1991 pop. 29,550), SW Czech Republic, in Bohemia, on the Otava River. It has tobacco, paper, and textile industries. Písek was founded in the 13th cent. and later suffered heavily in the Thirty Years War (1618–48). The city has a 13th-century palace, a 14th-century stone bridge (the oldest in the Czech Republic), and several Gothic churches.
Písek 

a city in Czechoslovakia, in the South Bohemia Region of the Czech Socialist Republic. Situated on the Opava River, a tributary of the Vltava. Population, 22,700 (1970). A transportation junction, Pisek produces machinery, electrical-engineering products, and knitted goods and has a meat-packing plant. A main gas pipeline passes through the city.
