Pai 

Minchia (self-designation Paitzu, Paihuo), a people living in the western part of Yunnan Province (People’s Republic of China). Population, 800,000 (1967, estimate).

The Pai language is related to the Tibeto-Burman group of languages. The religion of the Pai is Buddhism. Their chief occupation is farming (rice, sugarcane, vegetables, and fruit trees). The ancestors of the Pai, the western Ts’uan, were part of the medieval east Asian state of Nanchao, but in the tenth century they founded their own state of Tali, which was destroyed by the Mongols in the 13th century. In 1956 the Tali Autonomous District was established in the Chinese People’s Republic.

Pai 

an urban-type settlement in Prionezhskii Raion, Karelian ASSR. Located in the extreme south of the republic, it has a railroad station on the Petrozavodsk-Leningrad line. There is a state fur farm in Pai.
