To demonstrate their approach's feasibility, Kogge and his coworkers at IBM created EXECUBE, a prototype computer made up of 64 relatively simple PIM chips.
We are currently testing memory modules, containing the Processor-In-Memory (PIM) chips, on our pulse power tester and completing the system's logic design that merges the vector scalar architecture of the CRAY-3 with the parallel architecture of the PIM chip array.
SIMD arrays of 1 million processors are expected to be available using the current version of the PIM chip once this development project is completed.
