Pachaug State Forest Location: 1 mile north of the center of Voluntown on Route 49. Facilities: Forest has two principal areas, Chapman and Green Falls. Both areas have campsites (22 at Chapman, 18 at Green Falls), trails, boat launches, and picnic tables. The Chapman Area also has pit toilets and a horse camp with 18 campsites. The campgrounds at Green Falls are open from late April through September only. Activities: Camping, boating, freshwater fishing (@di at Chapman Area), hiking, hunting, mountain biking (both areas); in addition, the Chapman Area offers backpack, horse, and youth camping, horseback riding, motorcycling, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. Special Features: The largest state forest in Connecticut, Pachaug contains southern white cedar swamps and a rhododendron sanctuary. The Chapman Area includes Mt Misery Overlook, the highest point in the vicinity (elevation 441 feet).
