Pallottino, Massimo
Born Nov. 9, 1909, in Rome. Italian Etruscologist. Historian, archaeologist, and philologist. Professor at the University of Rome (1946). Pallottino is the author of works on the archaeology, language, and art of the Etruscans. He rejects the ancient tradition that the Etruscans came from Asia Minor and believes that they evolved in Italy as the result of the interaction of various ethnic groups. Pallottino has directed many excavations, including one in Santa Severa (Pyrgi), where parallel texts in Etruscan and Phoenician were discovered. WORKSL’origine degli Etruschi.
