Palma Soriano

Palma Soriano (päl`mä sōryä`nō), city (1981 pop. 55,851), Santiago de Cuba prov., SE Cuba, in the Cauto River valley. It is a road and rail hub and the commercial and processing center for a rich coffee and sugarcane area. Palma Soriano emerged in the early 19th cent. as the heart of a coffee-growing zone developed by French emigrants from Haiti.
Palma Soriano 

a city in eastern Cuba on the Cauto River, in Santiago de Cuba Province. Population, 41,200 (1970). Palma Soriano has a railroad station. It is the market center of an agricultural region, which produces sugarcane, coffee, cocoa, fruit, and rice and engages in stockraising. It has food-processing, tobacco, and leather goods industries.
