Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Location: South of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle.
Facilities: Campsites with water and electricity hookups, tent camping, showers, restrooms, primitive campsites, cabins, picnic areas, multi-use trails, horse rentals, interpretive center, visitor center, amphitheater, park store, restaurant, playground.
Activities: Camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, guided tours, interpretive programs.
Special Features: Canyon is approximately 120 miles long, 20 miles wide, and 800 feet deep and was formed primarily by water erosion from the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River.

One such site is the Palo Duro Canyon State Park with its 1000-foot deep canyon and blazing sunset.
As was the custom during the 19th century, the buckskin material has been "colored" with yellow ochre, most likely from either commercial trader powders/dyes, or from powders crushed from the yellow clays found in Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo, Texas.
