Panteleimon Afanasevich Moshkin

Moshkin, Panteleimon Afanas’evich 

Born Feb. 1 (13), 1891, in Moscow; died there Nov. 6, 1971. Soviet chemical engineer; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953).

Moshkin graduated from the Moscow Higher Technical School in 1918, where he later worked (appointed professor in 1928). He also worked at the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering and at the Scientific Research Institute of Plastics (he became a department head in 1960). Moshkin formulated industrial methods for the preparation of fatty acids, various dicarboxylic acids, and higher alcohols and glycols, as well as furan and organophosphorus compounds. His research on the synthesis of plasticizers (for plastics) provided the basis for the manufacture of such compounds. Moshkin was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1948), two orders, and several medals.
