Papakha
a type of masculine headgear worn among the peoples of the Caucasus. Papakhi come in various shapes: for example, they may be rounded on top or flat. The Russian papakha is generally a high fur hat with a fabric top. Beginning in the mid-19th century the papakha was the headgear of the Caucasian corps and all cossack troops. From 1875, it was worn by the units of the Russian Army in Siberia; in 1913 it became the winter headgear of the entire Russian Army. The papakha is worn during the winter by colonels, generals, and marshals of the Soviet Army. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
