Papakha

a type of masculine headgear worn among the peoples of the Caucasus. Papakhi come in various shapes: for example, they may be rounded on top or flat. The Russian papakha is generally a high fur hat with a fabric top. Beginning in the mid-19th century the papakha was the headgear of the Caucasian corps and all cossack troops. From 1875, it was worn by the units of the Russian Army in Siberia; in 1913 it became the winter headgear of the entire Russian Army. The papakha is worn during the winter by colonels, generals, and marshals of the Soviet Army.
