(virology)
A subgroup of myxoviruses, including the viruses of mumps, measles, parainfluenza, and Newcastle disease; all are ribonucleic acid-containing viruses and possess an ether-sensitive lipoprotein envelope.

Paramyxovirus

A subgroup of myxoviruses that includes the viruses of mumps, measles, parainfluenza, respiratory syncytial (RS) disease, and Newcastle disease. Like influenza viruses, the paramyxoviruses are ribonucleic acid (RNA)-containing viruses and possess an ether-sensitive lipoprotein envelope. See Animal virus, Measles, Mumps
