Parietal Foramen

the medial foramen between the parietal or frontal bones for the eyelike pineal body; it is characteristic of ancient lower vertebrates, including reptiles. It has been preserved in the tuatara, in many lizards, and in such fishes as sheatfish and fishes of the family Acipenseridae. In ancient armored fishes, the parietal foramen could be paired to correspond to two eyelike organs, the pineal body and the epiphysis.
