Parini, Jay (Lee) (1948–  ) poet, writer; born in Pittston, Pa. He studied at Lafayette (B.A. 1970) and the University of St. Andrews (Scotland) (B.Phil. 1972; Ph.D. 1975). He was a faculty member at Dartmouth (1975–82) before teaching at Middlebury (1982) and the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference (1982). He is known for his critical essays, novels, such as The Last Station (1990), based on the life of Leo Tolstoy, and his poetry collections, as in Town Life (1988).
