Park City, town (1990 pop. 4,468), Summit co., N central Utah, in the Wasatch Range. A former mining town whose silver and other deposits were mined out, it was a nearly ghost town by the 1950s but has since become a major skiing center and a bedroom community for Salt Lake City and Provo-Orem. Growth followed discovery of silver and lead (1868); George Hearst Hearst, George , 1820–91, American mining magnate, U.S. Senator (1886–91), b. Franklin co., Mo. He went to California in 1850 and became a mining prospector and geologist.
