Storting (stôr`tĭng), national parliament of Norway, dating from 1814. Its members are elected by direct universal suffrage for a four-year term, and representation is proportional. The Storting elects one fourth of its members to form the Lagting, or upper house, the remainder constituting the Odelsting or lower house, in which all bills must originate. Ministers may attend the Storting but may not vote.
Storting

the Norwegian parliament. The Storting is elected every four years according to a system of proportional representation and by citizens who have reached the age of 20. It is headed by a president and vice-president, who with the presidents and vice-presidents of the Storting’s two houses, the Lagting and the Odelsting, form the presidential council. The Storting approves the state budget, grants loans and credit, passeslaws, ratifies international treaties, and exercises control over the government.
