Parri, Ferruccio
Born Jan. 19, 1890, in Pinerolo, Piedmont. Italian political and state figure. In his youth Parri taught in a secondary school and was a journalist. In the 1930’s he aligned himself with the antifascist Justice and Liberty movement. He was a founder of the Party of Action, which grew out of Justice and Liberty. In the fall of 1943, during the war of national liberation against the German fascist occupiers (1943–45), Parri was elected chairman of the Committee of National Liberation of Northern Italy. In the beginning of 1944 he headed the partisan detachments of Justice and Liberty. That same year he became a deputy commander of the Corps of Volunteers of Liberty. In 1945 he headed the coalition government. Parri is a senator for life, and in 1968 he headed the independent left group in the senate. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
