A subperiosteal abscess arising from dental structures.

Parulis

(also gumboil, or acute suppurative periostitis of the jaw), a subperiosteal or subgingival abscess caused by inflammation around the apex of a dental root. The condition is marked by pain, reddening of the mucosa at the site of inflammation, edema in the soft tissues of the face, and elevated body temperature. Parulis is treated by lancing the abscess and/or removing the tooth.
