We visit Thiepval Memorial to The Missing and the trench system at Beaumont Hamel, Ypres, Passchendale and the Menin Gate, all providing a fascinating insight and commemoration to the very special heroes of time gone by.
Speaking from his nursing home in Somerset, Mr Patch - who served in Passchendale - said: "I will wear this medal with great pride and when I eventually re-join my mates it will be displayed in my Regimental museum as a permanent reminder of the kindness of the people of France.
Place names like Ypres, Passchendale and Vimy Ridge abound.
