Passek, Tat’iana Sergeevna 

Born Aug. 2 (15), 1903, in St. Petersburg; died Aug. 4, 1968, in Moscow. Soviet archaeologist. Doctor of history (1947).

Passek was a senior research worker at the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1932. Her principal works were devoted to the Neolithic and Aeneolithic periods and to the Bronze Age in Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. In 1934 she became head of the Tripol’e expedition, which investigated sites in the Ukrainian SSR; in 1947 she took charge of an expedition of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR investigating remains in Moldavia. The results of her research were published in the monographs The Periodization of Tripol’e Settlements (III-II Millennia B.C.) (1949; State Prize of the USSR, 1950), Early Land-cultivating (Tripol’e) Tribes of the Dnestr Region (1961), and New Information on the History of the Tripol’e Tribes of the Dnieper-Dnestr Mesopotamia (1964). Passek was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and a number of medals.
