The Pauline corpus is treated in two chapters (7 and 8), with the Pastoral Epistles discussed in a two-page addendum to chapter 8. Four essays on the New Testament deal with Jesus, Paul, Acts, and the Pastoral Epistles. If the language of "renouncing impiety and worldly passions" and being "self-controlled, upright, and godly" seems oppressive, perhaps it says more about us and our culture than it does about the intentions of the writer of the Pastoral Epistles. |
