Location: In Baltimore, Howard, Carroll, and Anne Arundel counties, on the western outskirts of Baltimore City. Patapsco has five separate recreation areas: Avalon-Glenn Artney-Orange Grove Area, Hilton Area, Hollofield Area, Pickall Area, and McKeldin Area.
Facilities: 73 improved campsites with electrical hookups, 14 family campsites (tent only, no electricity), 6 camper cabins, youth group camping, picnic areas and shelters, hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails, self-guiding nature trails, ball fields, playgrounds, disc golf course, historic sites, visitor center (é).
Activities: Camping, canoeing, freshwater fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, nature walks, cross-country skiing, hunting, interpretive programs.
Special Features: Park extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River and is nationally known for its trail opportunities and scenery. Among its many features are the world's longest multiple-arched stone railroad bridge, a 300-foot suspension bridge over the river, and the Avalon Visitor Center with exhibits covering 300 years of local history.
