Patapsco Valley State Park Location: In Baltimore, Howard, Carroll, and Anne Arundel counties, on the western outskirts of Baltimore City. Patapsco has five separate recreation areas: Avalon-Glenn Artney-Orange Grove Area, Hilton Area, Hollofield Area, Pickall Area, and McKeldin Area. Facilities: 73 improved campsites with electrical hookups, 14 family campsites (tent only, no electricity), 6 camper cabins, youth group camping, picnic areas and shelters, hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails, self-guiding nature trails, ball fields, playgrounds, disc golf course, historic sites, visitor center (é). Activities: Camping, canoeing, freshwater fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, nature walks, cross-country skiing, hunting, interpretive programs. Special Features: Park extends along 32 miles of the Patapsco River and is nationally known for its trail opportunities and scenery. Among its many features are the world's longest multiple-arched stone railroad bridge, a 300-foot suspension bridge over the river, and the Avalon Visitor Center with exhibits covering 300 years of local history. In this vicinity you will also find Patapsco Valley State Park, which is a 14,000 acre, five recreational area. They were recovered during four months of difficult digging in locations that include Maryland's massive Patapsco Valley State Park, which covers three counties west of Baltimore, to Virginia's Pocahontas State Park southwest of Richmond. |
