On the southwestern border of VA, southwest of Roanoke; organized Nov 26, 1790 from Henry County. Name Origin: For Patrick Henry (1736-99), patriot, governor of VA (1776-79; 1784-86), and statesman, famous for proclaiming, "Give me liberty or give me death."
