Pawlik, Karel 

Born Mar. 12, 1849, in Klatovy; died Sept. 6, 1914, in Prague. Czech obstetrician, gynecologist, and urologist. Corresponding member of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Pawlik graduated from the medical faculty of the University of Vienna in 1873. From 1887 to 1913 he was a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Charles University in Prague. His principal works were devoted to methods of endoscopy of the urinary bladder, probing the ureters, and external obstetrical examination. Pawlik proposed new operations for urinary fistulas, extirpation of the cancerous urinary bladder, and plastic surgery for the urogenital organs. He was a member of a number of foreign societies.
