Peabody, Lucy Whitehead (b. McGill) (1861–1949) mission leader; born in Belmont, Kans. As an officer of the Woman's American Baptist Foreign Missionary Society (1890–1906), and chair of the Central Committee on the United Study of Missions (1902–29), she fostered the rise of women's and ecumenical missionary societies and Christian education.
