Peasant Strike of 1937
(Poland) a strike from Aug. 16 to Aug. 25, 1937, in which insurgents demanded the abolition of the reactionary “moral cleansing” regime. The strike became a large-scale movement in Krakow, Lublin, Kielce, and Lwow wojewodztwos. The peasants blocked the roads leading to the cities, and armed clashes with the police occurred in Lipnik, Minino, and elsewhere. On the initiative of the Communists solidarity strikes were held in Krakow, Lublin, and other cities. The government severely punished the strikers. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
