Peekskill, city (1990 pop. 19,536), Westchester co., SE N.Y., on the Hudson River; settled 1665, inc. as a village 1816, as a city 1940. Clothing, leather goods, lighting fixtures, and office equipment are made there. In the American Revolution American Revolution, 1775–83, struggle by which the Thirteen Colonies on the Atlantic seaboard of North America won independence from Great Britain and became the United States. It is also called the American War of Independence.

, Peekskill was attacked and burned (1777) by the British; after the war the city became a prominent trade center. Peter Cooper Cooper, Peter, 1791–1883, American inventor, industrialist, and philanthropist, b. New York City. After achieving success in the glue business, Cooper, with two partners, erected (1829) the Canton Iron Works in Baltimore.

Thomas and his wife Tania of Grafton; her mother, Hazel (Brown) Tatum of Shrewsbury; four brothers, Tyrone Hendricks of Peekskill, New York, Jabari Tatum and Carlton Tatum both of Albany, and Keith Tatum of Worcester; two sisters, Sandra Castro and Sharon Tatum-Amissah both of Worcester; four grandchildren, Chris, Madison, Trey, and Tyson; many nieces and nephews, including a niece who is like a daughter, Tracey Miller of Palm Bay, Florida.
