Pekalongan

Pekalongan (pĕk'älông`gän), city (1990 pop. 242,714), N central Java, Indonesia, on the Java Sea. It is a textile and batik center and the principal port for central Java; sugar, rubber, and tea are exported. A Dutch fort there was built in 1753.

a city and port in Indonesia, on the northern coast of central Java. Population, 112,000 (1971). Local industries produce textiles and process foodstuffs (including sugar) and tobacco. Pekalongan and its environs are known for their batiks.
