Pelnář, Josef 

Born Nov. 16, 1872, in Domažlice; died Oct. 28, 1964, in Prague. Czech physician (internist). Academician of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (1952).

Pelnář became a professor in 1912, and from 1920 to 1942 he occupied the chair of internal medicine at Charles University in Prague. His principal works were devoted to metabolic disorders and diseases of the liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, and blood. He is the author of a five-volume manual on the pathology and treatment of internal diseases. Pelnář was awarded the State Prize of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (1949), the prize of the city of Prague (1948), the Order of the Republic, and the J. Purkiñje Medal.
